His Silver Savior
Some
heroes are born….
Some heroes are called…
And some heroes are just accidental…
Dear Reader,
I am Captain Jilaran Starke and I am having the worst day ever. After years of working in the field for the Azarad Museum on Galadon Prime, they just up and fired me, giving me no reason at all. The Chalice of Carthage was stolen right out from under my nose. My ship is almost blown into tiny bits, and now I have an annoying, albeit gorgeous, hunk of a Ranger tailing me. What’s a gal to do?
Jilaran Starke, Captain of the Starfury.
Dear Reader,
I am Ranger Max Wylde and have been ordered by my superiors to protect Captain Jilaran Starke. My job would certainly be much easier if the woman would stay in one place, but no, she has to fly that ship of hers into the most dangerous situations. And to top it off, I am having the most erotic dreams of her and haven’t even met her in person yet. What’s a guy to do?
Ranger Max Wylde, Captain of The Hunter.

From chapter 5:
“Captain, that was an ion torpedo she fired at them. I can’t wait to take a look at her ship. What other weapons has she added?” wondered Jinx.
“Neither can I,” added McPherson. “I want to find out how she got micron speed to work on the Starfury. The engineers who built her never could. They said the M Class systems were too unstable, which is why they never made more than a hundred Starfuries and sold them to touring companies.”
This core was incredibly mass intensive however, and was, of a necessity, at least one quarter the ships overall size. Somehow Captain Starke had found a way around the normal mass restrictions and had found a much smaller version of the core.
Max smiled, shaking his head in wonder. Jilaran Starke had certainly made a lot of modifications. Turning to Mueller, he said, “Shadow the ship and follow her. Keep those tracking sensors on the Raiders. I don’t want them coming up behind us. Let me know when she’s in range.”
“Yes, sir,” replied Mueller as he engaged shadow mode, making The Hunter invisible to detection.
“Jinx, stay on weapons alert just in case. McPherson, augment engine output. I want us to find her and fast.”
Max left the bridge and returned to his quarters. On his personal computer he pulled up the holo-image of the Tantra System. There were three dead planets an archaeologist might love to explore; Alpha Viglan V, Tantra Prime, and Mishakal. Alpha Viglan V was the most logical. It had been excavated many times in the past, but Max was sure Jilaran Starke wasn’t going there.
Though the file he had on her was sketchy, one thing did pop out at him when he’d read it. Jilaran Starke did not follow the norm, which also left out the Tantra Prime. There wasn’t much there; even other archaeological teams had bypassed it as being unimportant. The few who had checked it out said the planet was unremarkable as the ruins were not as ancient as they’d first thought.
No, Tantra Prime was not where she was heading. She was going to Mishakal. He could feel it in his gut. “Computer, enlarge the visual of the planet Mishakal,” he said.
The three dimensional image of Mishakal appeared and Max whistled. If she’s going there, she’ll have to navigate through the asteroid ring without fault, he thought. The asteroid ring was four kilometers in diameter and the only way to reach the planet was through it. Cursing, he pressed a button, opening the intercom channel to the bridge.
“Mueller, activate the planet locator. Find me the planet Mishakal and set a course for it.”
“Aye, aye, Captain. Setting course. Do you really think she’s heading there, sir? That asteroid ring is dangerous. One wrong move and she’s space dust,” said Mueller, a worried tone in his voice.
“I know. But I have no doubt that’s where she’s heading. Engage propulsion speed and let’s get there before her if we can.”
“Yes, sir,” replied Mueller as he exchanged worried glances with McPherson and Jinx.
Jinx was especially worried. He had found Jilaran Starke fascinating and didn’t want to see anything happen to her. Just those few minutes outside her ship and he already liked her. She’d been competent in defusing the bugger, though he still wished she hadn’t destroyed the thing. He would’ve loved to study its circuitry and design. And he really wanted to know about that orb light she had created. It would be a useful tool when doing repairs outside the ship, and in tight spaces where light didn’t reach.
With speed at maximum, Max and his crew arrived just as the Starfury was entering the asteroid ring. “Damn! She’s really going in there. Reinforce the shields and follow her in. Don’t crash into any rocks, Mueller,” he said as he sat down and strapped himself in. Flipping a switch on the console in front of him, he made a ship-wide announcement. “Strap in everyone; we’re entering the asteroid ring surrounding Mishakal.”
